Rod and Andrew are delighted to have been accepted to participate in the Mystery Box Rally 2020!
Mystery Box Rally is one of the largest community lead fundraising events for Australia's Cancer Council. In the last 8 years, hundreds of drivers and their teams have raised over $4.5 million!
We're asking you, our friends and their friends to make a donation of $238, however - at the very least, if you have a little, give a little. If you have a lot, give a lot.
A condition of our participation is that we have to raise a minimum of $3,500 but - as highly competitive humans, we hope to raise well above this amount and your contribution, however small, will make a meaningful difference to the Cancer Council and we're proud to be doing our part!.
This year, we've been impacted and inspired by a dear friend and colleague, Casey, who was diagnosed with cancer less than two years ago. Casey is a lifelong man-of-the-sea and captains a charter fishing boat from Port Douglas. We think Casey would probably do this job even if he wasn't paid but doing the job now is becoming more and more difficult as he battles with the pain and effect of cancer each day. We are driving this rally and raising these funds in honour of Casey.
We honour this quiet, strong, hard-working and extraordinary man and, without knowing what the future will bring, we honour his journey and all those who make it easier for him in any way.
The Cancer Council is responsible for funding research which gives people with cancer a chance. Cancer is relentless and their research is also relentless. Because of the Cancer Council, we have some of the highest survival rates in the world and we want that to keep happening!
People often say fundraising is the hardest part, but we know that cancer has affected you or someone you know at some point in your lives and if your donation today could very well pay that single enthusiastic scientist to explore an idea which could change the world - it's worth every cent!
Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5 day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally."
