We are really happy to announce that we're taking part in Mystery Box Rally in 2020!!
Mystery Box Rally is one of the largest community lead fundraising events for the Cancer Council in Australia having raised over $4.5 million in the last 8 years.
Part of the requirements for our participation is to raise a minimum of $3,500 but we hope to raise well above this amount. These funds go to the Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity. They do some awesome work supporting people with cancer, and funding important research.
Fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated. Please make sure to follow our progress via this page and the blog post below.
Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5 day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally."
We have a car!!!!
Went for a walk to get a coffee up the road with the kids. On the way back, under a shady tree on the side of the road, there she stood:
A classic stunning beauty example of 1994 Ford Festiva.
It had a poster stuck to thte inside of the window "$500 ono"
One quick test drive with my brother and it was ours for the respectful price of $350.
Also, when we picked it up the lovelky previous owners had just got back from walking there goose. Yes a goose that goes for walks. Plus they had a massive parrot!
Man that coffee must have been strong!
A couple of people have politely asked, so I just want to stress that all costs to do this are paid for by me and Bernadette personally. We buy the car and ensure it is legal and safe. We pay fees to cover the cost of managing the race. We pay for all food, accommodation, petrol etc.
All your donations, 100%, go direct to Cancer Council to fund the projects they have listed. :-)
So its a win win win for all concerned. We get to have a lot of fun, and all our kind generosity gets to help a lot of people through some very tough times :-)
One of our support team members:
By popular request we have a photo of the parrot!!! (It's the one on the left - tee hee)
(Apologies we dont have any of the goose, however, as it gets walked regularly, we may just be able to post one soon!!! :-) )
We're pretty keen to make our trip carbon neutral, so are currently investigating some options such as:
Carbonfund.org at https://carbonfund.org/
Sustainable Travel International at https://sustainabletravel.org/
Green Mountain Energy at https://www.greenmountainenergy.com/
Native Energy at https://nativeenergy.com/
Will update once we know more.
The Fantastic Ford Festiva came to the rescue of one of our donators today.
Local painter Aaron Clapton was unlucky enough to experience a gearbox breakdown in his work car. So who should he reach out to? The Fantastic Ford Festiva!
Within minutes he was traveling safely back home in the passenger seat of the 1994 Festiva.
"What a fantastic car" he remarked "Without the help of Juey Lamington's Ford Festiva I would have been up my ears in strife"
Aaron will soon be making another small donation.
Fantastic cinema night on Wednesday. Thank you so much to everyone that managed to support us on the night, we raised over $2000!!!
It was so good to get so many friends together and have some fun catching up. Not only that, but personally I hadn't experienced such a posh cinema!! Big comfy chairs with a table in groups of two. Beers and dinner served during the movie too.
The movie was pretty good too. I still think he did it.
Congrats also to our lucky door prize winners, especially to the gentleman who won the actual 'door'. It'll open you up to new perceptions I'm sure.
If someone has the video of Sandy's rendition of God Save The Queen then please post in on youtube! The world needs to see this! She also raised $95 in the short time she managed to play! Hooray for Sandy! (and her accomplice!)
Big thanks to Steve who made organising the event look easy. For a short bloke he's pretty good at standing tall when it counts! ;-)
Also many thanks to Bernadette who's support mean everything :-)
And again, a big thank you to everyone from Me, Bernadette, Steve, Bronwyn and especially The Cancer Council :-) :-) :-) :-)
